Keswick

Keswick, situated between the huge bulk of Skiddaw and the gentle beauty of Derwentwater is a pretty market town offering a wide range of attractions for visitors, from shops and restaurants to museums with a difference, and boating trips around lake Derwentwater.

Cockermouth

Cockermouth is a pretty market town with a tree-lined Main Street. You will find a range of interesting independent shops including butchers, bakers, and a bookshop. Two rivers flow through the town, the River Derwent and its tributary, the River Cocker, hence the town’s name.

Grasmere

Grasmere is one of the Lake District’s prettiest villages, nestled in a vale just north of Grasmere Lake and crowned by magnificent fells and mountains on all sides. The village sits like a jewel in a bowl of hills and is romantic England at its purest. The area is renowned for its Grasmere Gingerbread!

Ambleside

Ambleside is perfectly located in the heart of the national park. Surrounded by majestic Lakeland fells, Ambleside’s roots are in the medieval woollen trade, but the town you see today is primarily Victorian, built of traditional grey slate. Ambleside is filled with a range of water sports, walks, climbs, cycling, along with many cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops.

Windermere

Windermere village has a lovely atmosphere, with some exclusive independent shops and an outdoor independent café culture which has grown hugely in recent years. You can sit outside several cafés and pubs and watch the world go by.

Bowness-on-Windermere

Situated on the shores of England’s largest natural lake, Lake Windermere, Bowness is at the heart of the Lake District. This dynamic town boasts hundreds of shops, eating and drinking establishments and many fine cultural and historical attractions. The range of activities and things to do is almost endless.

Kendal

Kendal is often seen as the Southern gateway to the Lake District. The town is home to a selection of shopping arcades, restaurants, and cafes along with two castles, two museums, and a host of historical buildings and bridges.

Carlisle

Carlisle, the Great Border City, is the main shopping, commercial and industrial centre for the northern half of Cumbria, and a fair amount of southern Scotland. It’s the home to Carlisle Castle, along with a wide variety of museums and other heritage centres.
